Greater Love

Greater Love

"Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends."  John 15:13

Sometimes the things God uses to remind us of His love have four paws, wagging tails, and eyes that somehow understand our hearts better than words ever could.

Paws & Praise Apparel Co was created from two things deeply rooted in my life: a love for Jesus and a love for dogs.

But over the past few weeks, this brand became more than just apparel inspired by faith and dogs. It became a way to honor the incredible role dogs play in our lives — especially for the people who depend on them the most.

At our church, there is a veteran who attended with his service dog, Puppy, and watching the relationship between them was something that deeply impacted me. Puppy has gone to heaven and a new "puppy," Echo, is now in training. You can see that this dog is so much more than a companion. He is a constant source of comfort, stability, and security. There is a quiet friendship between them built on trust and dependence that words almost cannot describe. The veteran relies on his dog in ways many people may never fully understand, and the dog never leaves his side. Through difficult moments, anxiety, memories, and everyday life, that dog is there — steady, faithful, and devoted. When you watch them together, you realize the bond between a service dog and their person is not just about assistance. It is about loyalty, companionship, and unconditional love.

That connection opened my heart even more to what service dogs truly mean.

So many veterans and first responders risk their lives every single day for freedoms many of us often take for granted. They experience things most people cannot fully understand — things that leave lasting scars long after they return home.

For many of them, service dogs become more than companions.

They become safety. Comfort. Support.

A steady presence during difficult moments. A reminder that they are not alone.

And honestly, I kind of understand that bond  because I have experienced the love of dogs in my own life, too.

My dogs have been there during some of the best moments of my life and some of the hardest ones, too. They have sat beside me through grief, stress, heartbreak, and exhaustion. They have loved me on the days I felt strong and on the days I completely fell apart.

They never judged the tears. They never walked away during the ugly crying moments.

They simply stayed. Loving unconditionally. There is something so powerful about that kind of love.

And isn’t that just like God?

Sometimes when we struggle, we feel like God is distant. We wonder if He sees the pain, the loneliness, the anxiety, or the heaviness we carry. But Scripture reminds us over and over that He never leaves us.

Not for a second.  Even when we cannot feel Him, He is near.  Loving us.  Comforting us.  Walking beside us.

Dogs have a beautiful way of reflecting God’s heart toward people. Their loyalty, comfort, forgiveness, and unconditional love are reminders of the kind of love God pours into our lives every single day.

Maybe that is one of the reasons dogs mean so much to so many of us.

They remind us we are loved.  Not because we earned it.  Not because we are perfect.  But simply because we are His.

That heart is woven into every design created at Paws & Praise. Whether it is a shirt inspired by faith, encouragement, service dogs, first responders, or simply the joy dogs bring into our lives, the goal has always been the same:

To remind people of God’s love.

Because sometimes a dog curled up beside you during your hardest moment says more about unconditional love than words ever could.

And maybe that was God’s plan all along.

"Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love..." Jeremiah 31:3
