A Love That Overflows - What Oliver Reminds Me About Jesus

Oliver, my 5-pound Yorkie-Chihuahua, follows me everywhere I go. (If you have one, you know!) No matter where I go, he’s right there—loyal, constant, and always close by. He may be small, but the way he loves is anything but.

A Love That Shows Up Every Day

No matter what kind of day I’ve had, Oliver is always happy to see me. It doesn’t matter if I’ve been gone for five minutes or hours—his excitement never changes.

He doesn’t hold anything back.
He doesn’t keep score.
He just loves—completely and fully.

And the more I think about it, the more I realize… that kind of love points to something greater.

Tiny Dog, Big Love

Oliver may be teacup-sized, but his love is big. He gives everything he has, without hesitation.

It’s easy to look at him and smile, but it also reminds me of something deeper—how much more powerful and complete God’s love is.

If a tiny 5-pound dog can love this big, how much greater is the love of Jesus?

A Reminder of Jesus’ Love

The truth is, Jesus loves us in a way we can’t fully comprehend.

Not based on what we do.
Not based on whether we get everything right.

He loves us unconditionally.

His love is so big that He gave everything for us—
even going to the cross so we could be forgiven and made new.

When Love Overflows

Oliver’s love feels big because it’s constant, joyful, and freely given.

But Jesus’ love?
It doesn’t just feel big—it overflows.

It’s present in the everyday moments.
In the quiet.
In the simple things—like a small dog following you from room to room.

Sometimes the smallest things can remind us of the biggest truths.

A tiny dog with a big heart…
and a Savior whose love is bigger than we could ever imagine.

And just like Oliver reminds me every day—
love doesn’t have to be big in size to overflow in meaning.
